Legal Support Team Uses AI to Consolidate Multi-Party Exhibit Lists

Barnes & Thornburg’s Legal Support Team was engaged to assist a partner with a document management project involving exhibit lists from three separate parties. The task required consolidating these lists into a single, chronological master index to identify unique exhibits and flag potential duplicates.

Challenge

Manually cross-referencing three separate exhibit lists into a unified index would have required several hours of painstaking review. The process involved organizing entries chronologically, identifying overlaps, and isolating party-specific exhibits — work that is time-intensive and difficult to accomplish efficiently through manual methods.

Approach

The Legal Support Team's Workflow Coordinator leveraged an AI-powered platform to extract, organize, and cross-reference exhibit data from all three parties. The information was structured into a single, chronological table with dedicated columns for each party, enabling clear visibility into overlaps and unique entries without line-by-line comparison.

Impact

The consolidation was completed in approximately 10 minutes — a task that would have otherwise required several hours of manual review. The resulting master exhibit list was reviewed for accuracy in under an hour and required no corrections.

Because the Legal Support Team does not bill for its time, this work was delivered at no additional cost to the client. The rapid turnaround allowed the matter attorney to move forward with substantive work much sooner, rather than waiting on exhibit compilation.

This engagement highlights a key firm resource: the Legal Support Team is equipped with AI tools and available to support attorneys on large, complex, or time-intensive projects—driving efficiency and delivering meaningful value to both clients and legal teams.
